Actually, you're partially wrong I'd say.

Bans, yes. But the offence never drops off your record like it does in
the UK and a conviction for DUI shows up in your background check
forever[1]. Which AFAIK disqualifies you from jobs where you have to
drive people around, or so I'm told.
