Default First time bike buying!!! help!!!!

I'm buying my first bike in the next couple of weeks and am looking at two possible choices. I want a good starter bike for nice summer driving, maybe a small road trip, nothing too straining and that's all so I've craigslisted some bikes and am looking at a '78 honda twinstar, and a '79 honda cm400t. I want to take my bike on the highway so will these be able to handle 65-75 mph? Also any info on these two bikes would be a lot of help like are they worth the money, will they fall apart on me, etc... Both are under 30,000 miles and are $500 each. Thanks and please help ASAP!!! I want to get it by this weekend.

Thanks,

Sorry about the late reply. Did you decide on a bike? ?

My only advice would be to take each (and more if you can) for a test ride....a decent long one (at least 45 mins).

I haven't yet grown a big enough pair to buy one yet so I can't be of any help. I'm good for finding reasons not to, or to be a good sounding board for your fears. In other words, I can be a good wussy friend if I need to be. Good luck with your purchase.

I am also thinking about buying a bike. For me, mpg is more important. I don't want a big bike. Just something that can take me from point A to point B and with low gas mileage. Any recommendations?
