Greek Festival In Lecanto.
Anyone interested in meeting and riding over to the greek fest on Fri
or Sat in the afternoon? I like Greek food and would be willing to
buy a beer or two!

On 10/9 I was in Tarpon Springs for a couple hours. We went
into this restaurant (Greek of course) and the bartender
talked me into ordering octopus, char-grilled. Now, I've
never been much of an octopus fan but the bartender was
real friendly and good salesman. Out come two somewhat
blackened-purple 14" long octopus legs complete with crunchy
suckers. I actually enjoyed them a lot. Soft, not rubbery
like I expected. Sorta like eating lobster that crunches
on the outside.

Isn't that called Calamari? You didn't mention anything about Ouzo.
What kind of a Greek hater are you? You can't go into a Greek place
and not have Ouzo!!! >g<
BTW, I'm allergic to the iodine in Calamari. Last time I had it I
ended up in the hospital...It was good though!!!

Nope
Google it. (Images)
Octopus is just that, octopus.
Being the true Greek that I am, I would never have either without a shot or
two or three of Ouzo.
The way I prefer my octopus is without the "suction cups" on the tentacles
boiled and then marinated in
olive oil, lemon, vinegar with a little salt, pepper and oregano.
The best way to cook calamari is lightly bread it and pan fry it in extra
virgin olive oil. I then squeeze lemon all over it and enjoy....
Damn, I am getting hungry.

I'm going this afternoon for supper and tomorrow too!
You are from Milwaukee? Or is my DOF acting up again?
If your from Milwaukee....
I can't remember his name but he started out with a little ice cream
stand on Appleton Ave S W of Kopps, then moved to Waukesha opposite
all the car dealers. I used to sit with his family at weddings, so
when I came into the resturant grandma would bring a small plate with
food for me while I ordered!
Gus had a little place on Greenfield Ave Just east of the 45 bypass.
There was another on 84th and Burleigh, a small corner restaurant.
I always look for Greek restaurants when I arrive in a new town. Good
food, good service and usually good people.

Nope, I am in Michigan.
About 15 minutes from our Greek town in Detroit. It used to be a great place
to visit but now that the Casinos have destroyed
it with their buffets, Greek town has lost it's appeal. The food is
terrible, service is awful and the restaurants are dirty. So between my mom,
wife and mother in law, I get my fill of authentic Greek cuisine.

No Ouzo for me. It makes me do things that I can't remember.
I know it's a tourist trap but if you ever get by Tarpon Springs
check out Hellas Resturant. And if you see a tall balding guy
with a big smile at the front door, tell him that his "cousins"
from Seattle said hi. Apparently he has a lot of cousins.

Hellas is one of my favorites along with Pauls shrimp house and then
Pappas's
Then I go to the first bakery on the left side of the main street (can't
remember the name) and have my fill of Diples (honey rolls)
All of this talk of Tarpon has me checking airfares for a quick get away.

I laugh when I watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
My family is that story.
Restaurant business, travel agancy, the crazy aunt, the grandmother.
My wife is the sister of the star with the 3 boys that play hockey.
She married the greek guy...
My wifes sister married the outsider and she used to sneak around so the
parents would not find out.
My Brother in law hates working in the family restaurant.
It is amazing how exact my life is to the movie.

Hmm, actually I *can't* recall that. Much like a few episodes that
featured vodka, tequila, bourbon, scotch, wine and beer (at the same
