| | | Looking for input on which to choose Hi All,
Have a round of your favorite on me. This is not the classic "Which
Harley should I get?" thread. I'm in the market for a Road Glide.
While I'd really love one of the new '09's, I just can't come up with
that kind of coin so I'm looking in the used market. I found two in my
range and I'm looking for input as to the pro's and con's of either
one.
Bike 1: 2003 with 26k miles.
Bike 2: 2005 with 37k miles.
Both bikes are fuel injected w/ stage 1. First impression tells me to
go for the one with lower miles but I know that there have been
updates to the bike over those two model years. I just don't know if
there was anything significant.
Thanks for any ideas.

No, it's not.
It's a valid question with an answer that is hard to find based on the
physical differences in older model years.
Wish I could help, but I'm not sure what the differences are between the
'03 and '05 touring models.

It's not the *classic* "Which Harley Should I Get" thread. It's more of
a classi "Which Year vs Mileage Should I Get" thread since he already
knows which model Harley he is gonna get. I think this thread has some
merit. BWTFDIK. <sfsf>

Depends.
My bride holds the lease on me... so ya might want to chit-chat with her.
I do(and can) make folks giggle, cry, or be in shock!
I can cry, laugh, pretend, or drink lots of stuff, blow up balloons and
am capable of folding then into various shapes, spit fire, impregnate
women, shave pubic regions, eat raw or cooked fish and/or beef, slay a
dragon, vote for the dead, laugh out loud at others, cry inside when
others laugh at me, climb on tables, scream in pain when I fall off said
tables, invest in stocks, lose money when I invest in bad stocks, paint
yer while you wait, and tell you why liberals suck muck!
I can do it all... in a nice 3 piece Brooks Bothers Suit! |

Actually, no it's not. The classic "Which Harley should I get?" thread
generally goes something like, "Should I get a Road King or a Night
Train?". This is more of a nuevo "Which one?" thread because what I'm
really asking is, "Does anyone know of any significant upgrades
between the 03 and 05 model years to offset the extra mileage if all
other factors are equal?".
You may need a couple more drinks before the difference becomes
apparent. Have a couple on my tab.

Some later H-D touring bikes and particularly police models have ABS
brakes as an option. Something to consider if you ride in
less-than-ideal conditions.

Shop a little longer and find a newer model with ABS, 96ci, and 6 speed.
I settled for an 03 FLHRI which is a great bike but I still wish I had
the 96ci instead of the TC88. I let bottom line price override my
instincts. YMMV

You're right; and it's a good question worth a decent answer. Which in
this group is far more difficult to come by than is ought to be or used
to be. It's not you. You're doing all the right stuff.
It's just that this group has become progressively less helpful and
useful and progressively more attuned to smart-assing than it could be.
Shit, I'd tell you the differences if I knew them, but I don't. So I can't.
But, having said that, given reasonable maintenance on both, I'd go for
the newer one. As has been said, you'd have whatever improvements were
made over the two year model cycle and given reasonable maintenance the
mileage difference won't mean that much.
But what the fuck do I know about gnu? I'm sitting here looking at a
100 year old house on a hill in Tennesee and giving serious thought to
buying it. So how fucking smart can I be?

Got 'er done. Well, at least to where I said I would. Pic across the
street.
I'm thinkin' front end today, but might just see about cleaning up the
wiring and starting the oil system plumbing. Might be easier to run
some of those lines while there's not much in the way<g>.
