| | | MC trailers - security Afternoon all. Cards on the bar next to the brunch. Help yourself to
the flavor of your choice today.
Been admiring the trailer posts across the street for the past few
days and am interested in one myself. I am always thinking first of:
How can I keep some asshole from stealing that sucker.
I'd been kicking myself for giving away a lock for the last boat
trailer I owned.
Received the new issue of BoatUS magazine today and found a blurb in
the 'hottips' section (Pg. 28) on a new tongue lock which is a far
superior design than any I've seen before.
Passed along for your consideration http://www.trailergator.com/expages/howitworks.asp
This link is to the smaller of three models offered and looks ideal
for a scoot trailer.
Ride safe,

Not if ya have a Uni-Go trailer. Then again, I never worry about it
being stolen. It's either in a motel room or I'm campin' within'
killin' range. You can check 'em out here: www.uni-go.com/

I only pull trailers with the Wing. When I'm in a motel the trailer
stays hooked to the bike, which has an alarm system with shock
and microwave perimeter sensor and pages me in the room.
If I;m camping the camper is opened up to be 6 X 12 feet and
it's not going anywhere. Plus it's all insured, life is to short
to sweat the small shit. YMMV

Got me thinkin' too. Wonder why people ride motorcycles and then drag
trailers with them. I bought a bike to get away from shit not to take it
all with me.

That's a snappy rig, but a bit pricy for my taste. Wouldn't turn it
down if I found one in my Christmas sock though.

Those of us with limited funds and advancing age find it less
expensive
to camp. When you're approaching 70 in a few years a tent and a
sleeping bag just don't cut it. Last long trip was 3,800 miles in two
weeks, total expenses for gas, ice, beer, food I cooked in camp,
camping fees, etc. was $868.00 which I could not have done by
staying in motels and eating in restaurants.
YMMV

I leave mine hooked up to the bike and my trailer lock doesn't
expose the shaft. When I am disconnected I'm like the others I run
with, lock it so someone can not place the hitch on their ball and
tie it down so it won't come off. I guess I live in a area where its
not that big of a issue. And if it did, I'd just call my insurance
company and start over.

I do like my big air mattress, getting off of the ground is a bitch anymore.
I like to be able to set up and at least be closer to being up right, big
tent and fluffy pillows nice too. If I'm going to be out I may as well do it
comfortably. I see so many people, friends, doing it like I used to, small
tent with no air mattress then get up cranky as shit. Then have to listen to
them bitch how poorly they slept and how sore as hell they feel, yep, I'm
getting old. That's when I'm glad I have my trailer even more!

Yeah I get that. I don't care to camp, don't think I'd care much for
pullin' a trailer, probably won't get old enough to worry about
approaching 70 either. You put it in a different light for me though,
one I didn't think about much 'cause I got a fairly narrow view of the
world.

Interesting, thanks. At home my bike trailer stores in the shop, and if I
have to leave it at a camp site or such, I usually padlock one of the safety
chains around a picnic table or light pole.
Of course, if I had one of those tent trailers, this would be just the thing
to assure that my home away from home stayed where I put it.
Might be able to use it on my big trailer when we do the craft shows though.
See a lot of various kind of locks on the other vendor's trailers.

Well, if I hooked my Uni-Go onto yer bike you wouldn't even know it's
there 'til ya tried to back up. You'd get better gas mileage... no
shit, I get a 5 mpg increase consistently with it. If you were onna
three week road trip that covers 5k plus miles, you'd sleep better
every night ya camped due to havin' a bigger tent, bigger air
mattress, more pillows, etc.
You wouldn't have to find a laundromat as often since ya'd have more
clothes. You'd save a bunch O' dinero on eating expenses since ya'd
have a cook stove and fresh groceries instead of restaurant food...
not to mention room for yer favorite libations n' ice.
Packing/unpacking would be considerably easier since ya don't have to
fight fer every square inch.
If you got wet n' cold, you'd always have some dry clothes to put on.
If ya decide to stay inna motel/hotel it'll fit through th' door and
even in elevators... ask Jinks. Plus everywhere you go you'll have
some new friends because every mutherfucker out there wants to ask th'
same stupid fuckin' questions about it. Too bad I missed out on th'
PNW distributorship, could sell a brazilion of 'em without even tryin.
Snarl... but that's not all ya get, there's more |

Well Dean, take this fer what it's worth, but word I heard is that if
ya really want one, buy a used one built in New Zealand if possible.
That info is on th' manufacturers ID plate onna front.
Th' company was sold to a US based outfit and there's been a few
quality control issues after th' transition. Could very well be they
have th' bugs worked out now tho.
That said, these do hold their value extremely well. Finding a used
one requires mondo patience.

The folks at Master Locks have another style at : http://masterlock.com/cgi-bin/produc...A&template=app
In a 'post-barn-door' deal, we now have one of these on the trailer that
replaced one that went south over the Labor Day weekend.
Also check the titanium shielded shackle locks at : http://masterlock.com/cgi-bin/produc...5&template=app
(watch word wrap on both urls)

77 was a good year for landing them and keeping them.

Zing! Amazing how that can change your perspective ain't it?
Unfortunately, my gal won't ride. Fortunately, I don't need to make
room for foo foo juice or mascara.

Next time I'm down around Cinci I'll take a side trip to their factory
and check it out. Like I said, a bit over what I'm thinking of at the
moment, but it looks like a high quality item.
I've got a buyer for my leather tour pak so my next move is a new King
tour pak before spring. That's about a 30% increase in storage space.
If I were to run across a used Uni-go, priced right, I may just have
to jump on it though.

Please let us know what ya think after ya take th' tour... I'd be
interested anyway.

Yup, but more weight up high ain't my cuppa Coors. Don't remember
what a tour pak is rated for, but everyone exceeds whatever weight
limit it is. I likes most of th' weight down as low as possible,
YMMV.

I'll guarantee ya this, if ya don't like it, you'll get yer money back
out of it. Got mine from Dave N 'cause he was pullin' it with th'
wrong bike... a sloptail. Gotta have a bagger. Never met anyone with
th' right bike who'd sell theirs. And proper tire pressure is a must,
that and not overloadin' it.

Same here, it's always more fun than when she doesn't for whatever
reason. Mostly that reason is a four letter word, *kids*. Won't be
much longer and that reason will be gone... then we can ride out there
and buy ya a Grape Nehi (or whatever ya prefer).
Which reminds me regarding yer original query about why pull a
trailer. I've noticed that damn near everyone I've met onna road with
one has been a long way from home. Serious long distance riders who
spend a *lot* of time travelin'. If ya ever retire and do some of
that, you'll unnerstand mo better.

Ha! I was considering building a 100" Sportster to fuck around on and
tow it to runs with a Wing.

Nice bike, lots of photos. I've ridden some those desert roads myself.
This may be the cactus you didn't recognize. If so, a particularly
nasty item to deal with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy-bear_Cholla
Thanks for the free road trips.

Brer Stick had a BMW (somethin' er other) with a stereo. Had a tape
of a Harley starting, idling, followed by a few throttle blips.
Pissed off both th' H-D and Beemer guys, heh, heh.

Well, I'm also a Harley owner/rider but I'm not a HD fanatic.
In my mind a motorcycle is a "tool" and specific models are
better for specific tasks. I love my FLHRI but I wouldn't
consider it a long distance touring bike or that it has enough
HP to pull a 550-lb trailer. Sure as hell is fun to ride for a
few hundred miles at a time though. I let the bike fit the
kind of riding I'm doing at the moment.
YMMV
