Bill Cosby voice off ..
I got to go to Indiatlantic just on the southern border of Melbourne.
Cindy's mothers backyard was full of water threatening to go into the
house Wed.
We got there after driving through 1-2 ft of water in spots along 192.
For the most part all ditches along the roads were completely full of
water, and all low lying pasture lands are now lakes.
The drainege system works but it was overwhelmed, 24" in 36 hours.
When we left thurs eve most of the water in the area had receded from
the roads in west Melbourne.
I never tried to venture north to the worst areas, figured they had
enough gawkers and stranded vehicles.
I couldn't find anybody open along the beach to try kite surfing,
maybe next time.
I drained and pumped out her back yard and she is relieved and can
relax now.
Her problem was mostly self induced, over 38 years of having thick
rich lawn and flower gardening had built her yard up too high. The
water was traped in the back yard, I dug a tranch along the side yard
to the street and that took care of enough water to aleviate any
threat of flood to the home.
The pump just got the lower areas in the back yard.
Fay is still lingering and zig zagging accross florida. I have never
seen that much rain in that short of time. Of course we needed it,
just not all of it in one day.
Is this from global warming or global cooling ?
Motorcycle content ...... going for a ride today to relax , better
bring my rain gear just in case

Shirley, buy the man a double and round for the house. He's had an
instrument of toil in his hands and he needs that double.
Even thinking of such a thing strikes fear into the heart of this old
retired guy. W_O_R_K really is a 4 letter word.

We haven't gotten anything like that up here in Baja Georgia (yet) but
it's still raining to beat the band and literally blowing up a gale.
This is the morning I was going to head to Len's. Not gunna hap'n.
Haven't personally lost any trees yet, but we've got a ton of branches
and stuff all over the yard and it's not supposed to stop blowing like
this until tomorrow.
For those of you who've been to our house, the swamp (that's Salt Marsh
to the realtors in the group) is now full up to the closest palm trees
at mid-tide. Can't recall offhand when high tides are today, but it
ought to be interesting at Casa Meshuggi today. Spent almost all of
yesterday afternoon sitting on the back porch watching the show. I love
violent weather. Big winds, horizontal rain. Swallows blowing around
like kites trying to fly upwind.
Lots of folks out in Arie's general direction have been without power
for awhile, and we've lost power here at the beach a couple-three times
but not for longer than a few hours at a time.
Been hoping that all these limbs and tree litter will blow over into my
neighbor Sid's yard. He's a real meticulous guy and he'd have that
stuff cleaned up and hauled out to the street before it even stopped
blowing. No such luck, though. It's all so wet that it won't go anywhere.
Has there ever been a more lackadaisical, mindlessly wandering storm
than this one? I can't remember a cyclonic storm just sitting
motionless for very long before. Dumb thing just sat there
half-offshore for what, half a day or more? And when it did move it was
meandering along at 2-4 mph. Shit, I walk Rita faster than that, fer
chrissake. WTF? A storm you could walk out of the way of. Can't wait
'til Faux Gnuz thinks of that. 'Why would anybody be injured by this
storm? Why, they could literally have walked away from the storm!
What's wrong with Those People?'
Oh, and speaking of Those People, we had three inland idiots (not that
all inland people are idiots or that all idiots live inland, or that
either or any of those are Bad Things) from (IIRC) Indiana decide that
it'd be fun to go for a dip in the Atlantic yesterday. Huge fucking red
banners with the intergalactic symbol for
IfYouGoInTheWaterYou'llFuckingDie emblazoned on them. No lifeguards
anywhere, of course. Wind blowing onshore at something like 50 mph and
waveafterwaveafterwave, so close together that there really were no
troughs between them and all of them about four to five feet high.
These morons decide to go for a swim.
The two guys are in the hospital and the girl's dead.
Fucking idiots. Didn't even have anybody to hold their beer.
And that's all the local happenings from slightly behind and above the
middle of the storm.

Went in to work this morning. My boss flew into Orlando last night
and was coming to the site. Water was five feet or so horizontally
away from the road in. Mostly about 3 feet lower than the road. At
3:30 we went to dinner in Crystal River and the water was almost to
the road in places. High tide was at 9: 20 or so tonight. I don't
think we'll be workin on the site tomorrow. I'm tired of the rain.

Just a guess, but since you haven't posted since 8:07 am yesterday,
yer power is out again? Hope all is well, mang.

I appreciate the thought, but everything was cool here. It was still
windy and rainy and all, but I got cabin fever and went out to get out
of the house. Lots of trees down, unimaginable amounts of tree litter
everywhere and interesting piles of debris where the high-water marks
are over roads and bridges and yards and suchlike.
Found lots of open restaurants, snack bars, coffee shops, beer joints,
and barbeque places, but not a single open gun shop. Odd. Hardware
stores, ice cream stands, groceries were open but the gun shops were all
closed. Not what I expected.
Then Ms. Mouse was finally able to get a flight in from El Paso and the
rest of my evening was well-occupied. Happily.
Today the storm's gone, the rain has stopped, the wind has just about
died down, and the yard is full of tree shit. Gonna have to go out with
tools of gathering and tools of displacement and get rid of all that stuff.

Hate that part. We generally get one good wind storm per winter that
requires Mr. Chainsaw to get out of th' driveway... and points beyond.
Glad ya's made it fairly unscathed... luck to them's who fared worse.
