Default Security

The other day a brazen thief walked through the driveway around the side
of the house and knocked at the back door. I was in the shower, no one
answered and then the intruder made off with an old electric range I had
out there. No great loss, but my Ultra was parked near it under a bike
cover, which the thief couldn't fail to notice. So then...

Paranoia strikes deep
Into my gastro-intestinal tract it did creep
It started when I got afraid
That a man would come round, and take it away

You know we gotta
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody knows what's goin' down...

Well right away I started establishing a multi-layer defense in depth.
I chained the bike to an old utility trailer next to it with a padlock,
parked my van so as to block access, and pulled its fuel pump fuse.
I also installed an on-board bike security alarm under the batwing.

Today for perimeter security I bought a heat-sensing motion detector/
transmitter and a matching receiver that will turn on a lamp or a radio
(to wake me up) as well as a small outdoor camera.

So if I get woken up at 3 in the morning and see some sinister shadowy
characters up to no good in the driveway do I rush out there in bare
feet and PJ's and accost them, shouting: "Ho there, villainous varlets!
Cease thy nefarious doings! I hereby arrest all ye rascals in the name
of Good Queen Bess!"? (That's after dialling 911).

(Note: here in Canada there are heavy restrictions on firearms. However,
I might get myself a hunting bow as an equalizer.)

Or you could just stamp your bare feet and all the raccoons will run
away.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't it have been cheaper to just build a
garage?

Seriously, sorry about the bad guy. Do protect your bike.
