Well, it was only a Harley. Easily replaced and not special like some of
your Brits.

What's wrong with the V-Rod? When I first saw it I thought Harley had
taken a huge leap forward and it would be a huge success. Then they
didn't sell.

A little long? A little slow? Too much input from the cagers? I
dunno....they don't even sound like the regular potato machines.

Yeah, that appears to be the faithful voting with their dollars.

Troy, Thumper is the real deal. He's been riding for years and years, he is
the Jay Leno of Reeky.

He even let me ride his big dollar Road King. It is a proper bike.

I wish I had the means to buy one bike (the Norton) (or car) out of his
collection. And knowing his history (a tragic fire) and love of vintage
motorcycles, I'll respect his opinion.

Perhaps the he'll offer me a deal on the Uly!

Although I do curse him on occassion for providing me my first canned double
shot expresso from Starbucks, $2+ a can! God help me, I love that drink.

The sound isn't a problem.
They are a chunk overstyled, the rake is too long and stretched out
causing some low speed handling problems, the gas tank was too small
until '08, it has, for H-D, limited options, especially with the more
popular Night Rod Special which many more people seem to like.
Unfortunately, it is also the most uncomfortable V-Rod.

Originally, the price was inflated by H_D and then made worse by dealers
so that very few felt like putting out the money for one.
Now they are more reasonable.

Very little in the way of optional equipment crosses over from one V-Rod
to another since they seem to move pieces around for no apparent reason.
The new Muscle, which has some oddball features of its own, is once again
very different in set up.

On the other hand, out of the box performance is very good, handling is
accurate at speed although it will never be a canyon carver and the
brakes are excellent.

I test rode a Muscle a couple of weeks ago. Out of the hole it is nothing
special but once under way it will get you to illegal speeds very
quickly.

Now that the price is more in line with what you get they are starting to
sell better.

They are jittery in a low speed turn around, especially the new ones with
the fat rear tire but once you get into countersteering mode they are very
stable and accurate if less than nimble. That is caused by the long raked
front end which seems to be required by the extra angle of the motor in
order to clear the radiator.

You've said this before. Thats why I asked him an honest question.

IMO, they are a chunk wrongly styled. IMO, they had a real winner in
the style dept with the maroon Night Rod. Every other model has a
boring gray lump of an engine/frame. Seems they never tried very hard
to place a good set of wheels on it either, instead they went with
those idiotic dish jobbies.

I wasn't aware that the V-rod suffered from that all too common
cruiser problem also.

Yeah, on those they replaced the nice pullback handlebars with drag
crap that requires the rider into the dreaded squished C position.

The reviews I've read always note that dragging the radiator covers is
too easy and costly. Seems that would be a good place for some re-
design work. In fact, the ones on the new Muscle do appear thinner
toward the bottom, though it may be a visual illusion caused by the
new bike's change of propotions.
