Default 2006 Katana 600 Parts -- Available For How Long?

I'm looking at a 2006 Katana with 0 miles on it.

How long will the parts chain be active? 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?

Thanks.

The $crewzuki $tealer$hip will have parts for about ten years.

But there have been thousands and thousands of bullet proof Kan O'
Tunas built and the motorcycle salvage yards will have lots of parts.

I rarely ever buy anything from a $crewzuki $tealer$hip anyway.

I buy tires and chains and sprockets and oil filters by mail order
anyway, the only time I ever need anything from the $crewzuki $tealer
$hip is if I lose a special bolt due to vibration, or I need a
sprocket safety washer or alternator brushes.

On another note, I'm amazed at the number of horrible ways people can
improvise with names.

Examples:

Screwzuki (that is brilliant--I never would have through of that).

Toxic Hell (nickname for Taco Bell restaurant).

Wenchy's (nickname for Wendy's restaurant).

Pizza Slut (nickname for Pizza Hut restaurant).

Weak News (what some call Newsweek magazine).

U.S. News and World Distort (what some call U.S. News and World Report
magazine).

Speaking of Screwzuki ... a guy at work says that HD stands for "hundred
dollar", meaning you can't walk out of a Harley dealership without spending
at least a hundred dollars.

In all fairness to Screwzuki, there are immense costs associated with
maintaining a parts infrastructure. Each part probably sells for 3-10 times
what it costs in a new motorcycle. I don't doubt that if you put together a
$5,000 bike from parts it might cost $20,000.

It's like dealing drugs. Each level doubles the price to the next
level, so a part that cost the distributor $10 costs the $tealer $20,
and the rider pays $40 plus $5 goes to Schwarzenegger for
"protection".

The doubling of prices wasn't enough, so some $tealer$ have a minimum
$2 price for everything. You want 5 screws that cost $0.02, you're
going to pay $10 plus tax.

You can see that a rider needs to learn to read the markings on
hardware store metric bolts to avoid paying too much to replace a lost
nut or bolt.

You know *nothing* of how the Japanese maintain a motorcycle spare parts
operation, do you? I mean, absolutely zilch.

Who knows? Depends how popular a model it has been in the US. Which size
of Katana?

A lot of parts are generic - brakes, suspension and so on, and
availability (based on other, older, deleted models) is pretty much
indefinite. Used parts can always be found.

Obscure pieces of trim, bodywork, etc, become harder to find as time
goes by, but they can be repaired, or pattern items bought.

The fact that plenty of people here run 20 year-old and even 30
year-old Jap bikes without worrying too much about getting bits should
be a hint.

If the bike is a bargain, buy it.

But you have to admit, the breadth of his creativity in spite of that

My daily driver is a '96 Bandit 600, a close cousin of the Katana which
you will notice is older than 10 years. I haven't noticed any trouble
getting parts. Then again, it doesn't need parts very often. The
Katana is a quite popular and has been on the market forever, so I'd
consider it a better-than-average bet from the perspective of parts
availability.
