Amazing innit? Working suspension before most others, shaft drive
since before WW1(phase 2) and it's surprising comfortable for a short
guy like me to set on. Wish the owne of the one I'm familiar with
would have let me ride it. <sigh>

My guess would be more like middle-class transport in the early

Not quiet. You missed it by that much><. You didn't comment on the

Oh fuck me TOG, you're every-fucking-where :-)
I had one of those back in '64 but it had a nasty tenedency to eat the final
drive. Made from knob cheese and phosphor bronze IIRC.
Back cylinder used to get as hot as Hades too.

You'd be pretty much right too Timo. My Sunbeam was built in the 50's but it
was ten years old when I bought it and it was in excellent condition, so
very well looked after. That sort of thing didn't happen with the
underclass's, they just rode them 'til they died.
Mine died.

Does that mean the Rockers of the early 60's (associated with
the "underclasses" in the industrial north of England) didn't
look after their bikes?
I'd have thought if they were so economically challenged,
they'd want to protect their investments by maintaining them.

OK, here's another interesting side hack for ya: http://actualriders.ca/jack.htm
We met Jack last weekend in Salmo BC. It took him over a year to get
BC to approve the mods he made to the bike.
All I could think of was this guy really wants to ride.

Looks similar (inculding the motorcycle) to some stuff done in
Springfield, Mo in the late 70's. Dad and I went to their shop a time
or two,

The emblem above the "AA" label in the windshield appears to be the Peugeot

I like it! Now why didn't I think of that, when trying to design
a rain-proof motorcycle. Just put a windshield and lid over the hack
and stay dry.

I saw a similar wheelchair hack several years ago. The paraplegic
rider had been riding side by side with his brother when the car ahead
of them stopped and he had no place to go.
The problem with putting the hack on the left hand side is that the
rig tends to lift the hack wheel in left turns when you are usually
going faster than you go around
right handers.
A good rider can actually use the throttle to drift a righthand rig
through a lefthand turn... |
