| | | Amazing low speed accident Stopped at a light, I heard two crashes in rapid succession.
Turned my head just in time to see a lady in a small BMW
sports car with a bashed in front end now in reverse and
bashing into the truck behind her.
She had her hands over her face. Not sure if they were
up there as she reversed into the truck or just went up
afterwards.
I was really very curious whether she had accomplished
all of this by design or accident but figured I probably
should be as far away from this person as possible, so
I didn't stick around to find out what had happened.
Maybe it's the season for bad driving or something.
Y'all be careful out there. |

A co-worker got a nasty surprise this past weekend when stopped behind
a SUV at a redlight, the SUV backed up on to her hood and nearly
through her windshield. Seems the SUV driver was backing up to get out
of the turn lane and didn't see the car behind him. Sure am glad I
wasn't behind this guy on my bike.

A few years ago, after a round of golf, one of my friends in his Celica
pulled in behind our other friend in a lifted jeep.
The jeep backed up crushing the hood of the poor little Celica. I was the
only one who thought it was rather funny. |

It shifted into reverse as a result of the accident? How cool, in a QA
Engineer sort of way. =

Gyawd! And in that situation, it's easy for the SUV driver to say, "No,
they hit me!"

I was thinking about that the other day. Was stopped at a light
behind a good sized flatbed and his backup lights went on for a
moment. Now _that_ was scary.

Ah, then you've met her.
Every time she comes to a tee intersection her neurons get together and hold
a plebiscite on which way is right and which way is left. It invariably
comes out a tie, so she just turns in a random direction to see where she'll
end up.
If I were in charge of giving out driver's licenses, she'd be taking public
transportation. |

True story: a friend of mine driving an Austin-Healy Sprite was pulling up
to a traffic light behind a stopped police car in Colton California when the
cop suddenly accelerated backwards towards him.
Turned out the cop had stopped a short distance into the intersection and
had put it in reverse to back up a bit when *shazam!* somebody blew through
the intersection at around 60 and the cop automatically punched it to give
chase........forgetting that he was still in reverse.
Between the cop car's rear end rising under acceleration and my friend's
Sprite nosing down in a panic stop, the police car's rear license plate
ended up sitting where the Sprite's windshield had been.
Nobody was hurt, but there was a terribly embarrassed cop to deal with, the
city of Colton had to buy my friend a brand-new Sprite, and the speeding
driver got clean away. |

Did I ever mention the time my ex collided with her workplace ?
Transplanted New Yawkuh, didn't lear to drive until she got
to Ca. . Somehow passed the road test and wanted to drive
to work.
Turning into the driveway, she failed to turn the wheel back
and straighten out again. I finally paniced, reached over from
the passenger seat and started turning the wheel back myself.
This caused her to panic and hit the gas instead of the brake.
The car ran one wheel up over a concrete divider but thankfully
didn't flip over or burn or anything. When it came to a stop, I
had to forcibly pull her foot off the gas and shut the engine off.
Some of that just seems to come instinctively I guess. |

Another reason you stop way back from the vehicle ahead.
It gives you at least 3 ways out.

Yeah, I suppose that's worse than my wife that took the side off the
garage even though I had backed the car in so she wouldn't have to
back out.

Another reason to ride in California.
With lanesplitting being legal here the smarter riders don't get caught
between cars at all: we ride *between* them. |

We managed though to avoid the part where after hitting the office
building, the car flips upside down and bursts into flames. That
really
would have made the commute twice as sucky as it was already.
