She is pretty. I notice she's got different color lowers on in the
pix. I wonder if they had an RV or did she change by the side of the

Feh!
Any streetfighter worth it's salt is built out of a massive squid
bike that's been down on both sides. Throw the plastic away, add a
headlight, get a couple cans of black stove paint and you are up and
running.

I liked the comment, "Good thing they put the woman in the picture
because the bike is ugly."
Yeah, that's ugly. The primary drive belt being open like that is, IMHO,
just asking for trouble.
The bike is not set up as I'd set up a streetfighter. The seat is too
low and the damn thing is damn near invisible. I'd add barkbusters,
extra headlights and taillights, and some reflective tape in strategic
places.
(I put some red and white tape on my BMW saddlebags. A tourist in a taxi
asked me whether I was an EMT. No SMIDSY for me!)

Just a thought and maybe I'm full of it...but isn't that basicly what
a bobber is? Because that is what it looks like and technicly aren't
street fighters "bobbers" because they've bobbed a few parts after a
wreck or while building a bike out of salvage parts?
I dunno it's just a thought that hit me like a lemon peel wrapped
around a gold brick and smashed against my head.

If you built a fighter out of a tourer then yes, but who does it? ;-)

First thing I thought after I've seen the picture was "bobber" too.

I found the headlight most interesting.
They've been wanting to go with LED's in cars for quite a while (don't know
what the engineering considerations are -- cost obviously), but I understand
that LED's are up in the 200 lumen range now.
It would be fun to mess around with my Honda to see what I can craft that
will give enough LED illumination for a headlight.
Also, one interesting idea (if the thing is headsinked) is that cooling
potential will vary with airflow, which coincidentally varies with speed.
So, one might be able to design a variable brightness compact LED headlight
that won't come up to full brightness until it has enough airflow ... should
be OK for a motorcycle, as you don't need as much light at low speeds. |

LOL. David, you continue to astound. (I'm healthier for the belly laugh.
Thank you.)
Yes, the problem is dissipating heat from the substrate. Install the LEDs as
auxillary lights if you need, but JEEZ! leave the headlight alone. I really
do worry for you, you know.
(It's really not a bad idea, limiting current by sensing the substrate
temperature. Just not as the primary headlight.) |

OK, OK, so it has to hold its own at a standstill.
Still, I want me an LED headlight.

You're gonna have to wait a while for a practical one, I'm
afraid. LED technology is getting close, but not QUITE
there yet, esp. if your target is to match something like
a modern halogen.
Why, exactly, do you believe you want an LED
headlight?

I'd like an LED headlight. I understand Audi and Lexus
are working on them now. I'd like to have more light
output than my "modern" halogen headlight without
the ballast or other complexities of an HID light. |

I'd like to have full-spectrum light, much like LEDs don't put out. I
have a flashlight that puts out a blusih white light, but it's really
several distinct spectral lines that look white. Nevertheless, stuff
illuminated by it is harder to focus than stuff illuminated by a
flashlight with an incandescent bulb.
Quiartz-Halogen bulbs will work fine for a long time.

True but I'd like better distribution on the available light, crap
that's not the best way to word it but I HOPE you understand what I
mean... I really need to re-wire my headlamp with heavies braided
wiring and a modern bulb as I "think" it still has the original bulbs
and I've been told they get dimmer even if they still put out light.

I know exactly what you mean. Low beams need to be fairly flat and low
to the ground with a slight lump ahead so you can see ~ 3 seconds out
but not blind drivers ahead of you. High beams need to be aimed at
infinity so that during the day you can punch through their dense mental
fog.

Well, heavy stranded anyway. Braided is not necessary, even for
loudspeakers.

Yes, they do get dimmer. I recently replaced the low-beams in my '91
Civic with shiny new ones; the difference was remarkable.

Thank you! I new what I wanted to say...but what I wanted to say
wouldn't come out. It seems the more I know about something the harder
it gets for me to get the point across.

The wires I'm thinking of aren't braided per se. But the are 10ga fine
stranded sheathed in hi-temp silcone very flexible and you can even
get it florecent green or florecent screaming hot pink...careful that
last one could put your eye out.

Right, guess I better move out today and buy a new H4 bulb. I wont
bother asking which as in "outback of nowhere lower 48" sometimes you
get what you get and make do.
Or you do without...me I'll make do. I'm pretty good with bailing
wire, brazing rhod, duct tape, bun-ji, rat-chati, gas axe, stick, mig,
come along, pry bhar, cheater bhar, coat hanger etc. But don't let any
one know I'm built half the exhaust of a KLR250 with coffee cans,
brazing rod and silver solder...didn't burn out or rust through while
I had it. ;^)
