| | | Great balls awildfire! This east of Rochester, NY. Yesterday afternoon, whilst I was out
running some errands on the motorcycle, I (on a two-lane state highway)
caught up with, got stuck behind, and finally was able to pass, one of
these. http://www.stevkan.com/wildfirecar.htm
He was poking along about 40 miles per hour in a 55 zone...
Search youtube for several videos of the thing.

If you see it again do the world a favor and shunt it into
a ditch. 65 mph from a 650cc engine? If it was streamlined
worth a damn and geared properly it should be able to do 85
easy.

Not here in British Columbia (Canada). I already had a big tussle
with the bureaucrats in the DMV trying to get my Vespacar registered
as a bike and no go.

The US has an "experimental car" classification and if they
only bring a certain small number of the things in every year
they can get it street legal under that classification.
3 wheelers are very prone to tipovers, that is why you can't
buy 3 wheel ATVs anymore.

Not the ones with teh two wheels in the front. They'll kick the back
out easy but that's easy to drive around...if you didn't drive a damn
FWD car.

...such as the Can-Am Spyder, eh?
A short, roly-poly woman in our club recently bought a Spyder. She's in
her early 50s, has a stated inseam of 24 inches (though I think that
might be an exaggeration), and failing hips. It fits her well. She was
having trouble - due to the hip trouble - holding up her former low
two-wheeled Japanese cruiser.
I sat on the thing for a bit; not sure I could get used to how *wide* it
is...

Never mind *her*, what did you think of the Spyder?

I was very surprised to see that a local rider has a Spyder. I talked
to him in a bank parking lot. He only has one leg, so he uses an air
shifter. |

It's well made, but it's a three-wheeled motorcycle that the rider
straddles and the seating is tandem.
If I started with a clean sheet of paper, my three-wheeler would have
side-by-side seating and would be very low and more car-like. |

<lol> She is quite wide, as well.
I didn't ride it. The sitting took place last week at our BMW rally, and
I would not have wanted to drive it around the grounds with a thousand
Beemers parked closely about. It did feel as if it was wider than my
ex-sidecar rig, but that may be an illusion.
She mentioned that she is considering trading it for a newer one with an
automatic gearbox, which is apparently now available.
I have seen several Spyders on the local highways and the riders appear
to be enjoying themselves. It looks as if it is a viable alternative to
the trike-style motorcycle for those no longer capable of handling a
two-wheeled unit.

Actually I was thinking of the one PM did in the early 80's used a VW
front in. Sequental shifter (before it was cool) clutch lever on the
shifter. Heater.
