Default jacket fit- input needed

Here's my dilema... I haven't done too much shopping for gear over
the years, mostly just gone with whatever was one sale... so I haven't
tried on alot of stuff. But it seems like to me the jackets I end up
with aren't as form fitting as they should be.

I have a 42 inch chest and a 37 inch waist. I used to have a 38 or
39 inch waist, but I've lost some weight (and gained some muscle mass
in the upper body). Weight is about 195. I have been wearing large
jackets almost exclusively.

My first jacket was the Cortech GX air I bought three summers ago
on sale, size large. The fit seemed OK. Maybe a little baggy, not
form fitting. I next got a winter jacket, a Cortech Advance, also on
sale. The fit seemed really bulky all over, the collar stood out from
my neck a little, but it worked. The armor seemed to be mostly in the
right place, and with the liner in the fit was better even if I felt
like the michelin man. It was just incredibly bulky without the
liner.

My next jacket I bought was a Joe Rocket Atomic, size large, used
off eBay. This jacket seemed to fit a little more snugly, and I'd
lost some weight too so that helped. It's still slightly baggy, but
the collar seems closer around my neck. I can wear a microsuede vest
under it no problems. However, the shoulder armor never seems to want
to stay in place, especially on my left shoulder. It's like the
pocket is too deep or long. It covers the lower part of my shoulder,
not the pointy little joint so much. For some reason the right
shoulder stays in place a little better.

My other jacket is a Joe Rocket Sonic I bought used. I got ripped
off a bit because it had more damage than the grainy photo showed-
lesson learned. Only consolation is I payed about 80 bucks for it,
took it down to the local Pakistani leather guy and he fixed it up. I
filled in some of the minor road rash with a leather/vinyl repair kit
and put some wax on it and it looks OK. The fit is PERFECT, though.
My "Kirk Paunch" bulges out a little bit but on the whole the fit of
the jacket is really good, and the sleeves seem a little shorter than
on my Atomic. The only thing I don't like about this jacket- it's
black and hot. According to New Enough (great site), the jacket is
slightly small for an "alpha sized" jacket. I wish I could get more
jackets that fit like that one.

I've tried on a few medium jackets in stores- some fit, some were
too tight in the armpits. The stomach thing is an issue in the
mediums, though- only way they really fit was to suck in the gut
(Shatner girdle in my future?). Maybe if I lost weight I'd fit into
one better. I've never worn smaller than a size 34-36 though, and I
used to be actually slightly underweight at one time (early 20's- I
exercised alot- I studied martial arts and boxing and spent an hour or
two every day on a punching bag and jumping rope). I'm on a diet and
exercise plan, have been for a while, but I'm no longer young, gave up
martial arts when my sifu/guru moved, so the pounds don't melt off
anymore.
