Ya know, I've read a bunch of your posts and it's obvious that you've got a
pretty good mind and usually know how to use it. So why do you occasionally
fall off of the wagon and make wild straw-man statements such as the one
above?
I used to work in Hollywood as a studio sideman, I met a lot of big name
producers, actors, Etc., and I never met *one* who thought that copying a TV
show was "the worst thing that could happen in the universe".
They *did* think, pretty much universally, that they should get paid by the
people who use their services; an attitude that they share with the rest of
the American public. (Q: do you know anybody who wouldn't bitch if their
boss suddenly decided that he wasn't going to pay them for half of their
work day, but expected them to keep right on working for him full time?)
Simple fact is that if you're downloading a song, show, or published work
without paying for it; or if you swipe copyrighted material for your own
use, you're stealing someone else's property; and it's no different than if
you walked into their home and simply took whatever you wanted.
*That's* what people in Hollywood -and elsewhere as well- object to, and
if a goodly chunk of *your* income was being affected that way, you'd likely
be among the loudest voices complaining about it.
