| | | A Ride Report of an Old Ride How's it Going?
Not having a lot of motorcycle content to add to the group last
winter, I undertook the challenge of learning to perform web page
editing with Notepad. I learned about html, cascading style sheets,
transparent gifs, and even 3D CADD, creating a room in 3D to use as a
background on my new homepage. As is so often the case, I became
saturated before perfecting it all, but I'll probably get back to it
next winter.
The fruit of my labors was this - http://cruiseblue.com/
The ride report, a 2008 ride from Alaska to Whitehorse, is here - http://cruiseblue.com/toybox/ride2008/
There are a few pictures of RGD in there, several of the HOG Rally
games, and some scenic stuff.
I tried to create a package that would work for dial-up and multiple
resolutions, but couldn't resist adding a few panoramas, so two or
three pages are a little large. Any web comment are appreciated.
My sister and I are going to ride on down to Skagway this summer. Not
sure if the wife is going as she just fell down a few days ago and
hurt some ribs. The doctor advises against any rides for while.
Hope you're all healthy, wealthy, and wise,

Interesting effect -- something like the holodeck on _Voyager_.
Familiar objects like Google, YouTube etc are there, but in
unfamiliar forms.
Interesting read about the Whitehorse trip. My g/f recognized
the 3-story log cabin.

Hi Robert. Nice to see you back. Great effort on the Web site and an
interesting write-up.
I knew about the shots on main street, but I didn't realize you were
snapping pics at the bike rodeo as well. Nice. |

I wanted to have pull-down menus on the file cabinet drawers so each
drawer would display several similar links to choose from (like
newspapers, etc), but ran out of energy, hence the one link per
drawer.
I also wanted to have a little video in the TV panel, but opted to
merely place a you tube link.
The books were individually drawn, so I can copy them onto different
shelves.

Thanks Sean. I was trying to create a convenient report template while
making the repost, so the effort got a bit long for me. My intent was
to have the photo and text fully visible for even the lowest
resolutions, and to have the buttons not change position from page to
page so a person clicking NEXT would never have to reposition the
mouse pointer. I didn't quite get there.

My pleasure, Mark. I've enjoyed reading contributions from you and
others in here, so am happy to contribute.

Yeah, I noticed that too not long after I posted the link last night.
I forgot to edit the NEXT button on the last page. There are other
glitches too, like you can't get back to the homepage from the toybox
page. I had a lot of fun learning the basics of web page creation,
but creating the home page (which included learning to 3D render),
creating a multi-page report template, and composing the report itself
took me a very long time.

Thanks. It really was a great effort for me, as I was pretty clueless
about it all till I did this. Reading HTML and CSS standards and
actually applying them via notepad was a bit trial and error at times.
I like my homepage, even though it's not yet where I want it to be,
but I'm not all that happy with my report template.
Your trip report layouts look pretty good. I was torn between
creating long pages with fewer photos that require scrolling and
creating what I did, which is a report with a separate page for each
photo with narrative based upon the photo. One of my reasons for going
with multiple pages was that page loading might work better with
dial-up that way.

Since you and Gladys were the only entrants I knew, pretty much all of
my games coverage is of you two. I've got some video of you too. If
you'd like copies of it, drop the "drop" from my addy and send me an
address.
