Default Riding in Connecticut

Hi,

which routes shouldn't I miss in Connecticut? I went up the Route 1
today, which was quite scenic in parts, and found some nice backroads
around Totoket as well, but there must be more. What about the
Hartford area, I have half a mind on visiting the Mark Twain House?

Regards
Peter

Eastern CT, lots of rural byways including some designated
scenic roads. Rd 169 north from Norwich to North Woodstock,
then west on 197 to 190 and stay on 190 or aim a little
farther to the south on 140.

Also near the Rhode Island border, from Pawcatuck/North
Stonington, take Route 49 north to Almyville/Moosup,
then 14 west to previously mentioned 169 North.

Good luck

Northbound on RT 7 along NY border, or RT 8 thru Waterbury to RT 44 east
to Hartford.

And Rt 44 out to Limerock is gorgeous too on the western side.

I second 169 and make sure to stop at the Vanilla Bean at the
intersection of 169 and 44 for a great sandwich, and check out all the
other bikes intermingling with locals and millionaires visiting their
kids at the Pomfret school. Make sure you take 49 down to Mystic
before the season is over.

Sometimes you just need to explore. Tons of great roads all over CT!

Start in East Lyme, CT, just off Exit 75 of I-95. Head west on US 1 a short distance to Upper Pattagansett Road on your right. Then after a few miles bear right onto Whistletown Road which turns into Beaver Brook Road. Follow Beaver Brook Road to CT 156. Go straight across to Macintosh Road and then bear left onto Mt Archer Road which turns into Brush Hill Road. Follow that until it links with 82 and 148 in Hadlyme. Turn left and stop at the general store for coffee and a pastry. Then continue down 148 until Joshuatown Road on your left. Follow Joshuatown all the way back to 156 (careful, its tight and technical) then turn left on 156. Going north on 156 you will come upon the intersection with Beaver Brook and Macintosh. You can turn right and go back the early part of the route or continue to Baker Road on the right. Baker runs into 82. Turn right on 82 and follow that to Darling Road on your right. Turn onto Darling Road (stop for ice cream) then continue down Darling to Old New London Turnpike on your left. Follow that to Hartford New London Turnpike turn right. Follow that into Chesterfield and turn left on Chesterfield Road. Follow that past the school and then turn right onto Fire St. (very tight and technical and may be dirty) Follow that to East Lake Road on your right. Follow East Lake to Vauxhall St. Follow that to Douglas on your right. That will take you back to the Hartford Turnpike aka 85. From there you can get onto either I-395 or I-95, etc.
