SHIPPAGAN, N.B. -- Luc Bourdon, a promising rookie defenseman with
the Vancouver Canucks, was killed Thursday when his motorcycle struck
a tractor-trailer in a crash near his hometown. He was 21.

Not to sound too caullused but just because he's a hockey star doesn't
nessesarily mean he wasn't a squid and taken by "your guys" own gene
pool stats No one said what kind of bike he was riding but my
money's on an R6 or R1.

He was a young man with a life full of promise in front of him and a
loving caring family at home. Just like far too many others who will
be needlessly killed riding motorcycles this season.

Be careful out there folks.

It's sad. Ferraris make it easy for young hockey stars to get in
trouble, too:

.....neither does the fact that he was 21 necessarily mean he was a squid.

He hadn't been riding long, having just gotten his license 2 weeks
prior, and the bike 2 days prior. Even some of his close friends were
unaware that he was riding. Guesses are only that, guesses, but you
might also be able to infer that he hadn't had much, if any, rider
training. Sad that he's gone, sad that his death might have been
avoidable. News reports quote the RCMP as saying that he crossed the
centre-line and ran head-on into a transport truck, in windy conditions.
That kind of accident should be avoidable.

Be definition ( 'promising rookie for a top pro hockey team ),
he was : Young, very physically fit, athletic, aggressive by nature,
not worried about getting hurt, ( last I heard, pro hockey wasn't a
lady's knitting circle ), and egotistical ( you don't get where he was
in his career by standing at the back of the line and saying 'Oh,
excuse me, may I please try now, if it's OK with everyone ?' ).

Squidly properties, in combination.

Ouch!

I've only been riding a sport bike for a couple of years and it never ceases
to amaze me how fast people ride them in the twisties....I'm very content
riding the speed limit up to about 10 mph over at best. Speed just isn't
worth taking such a chance with your life.

Of course it was avoidable.
It is always the rider's fault.
And check his experience and lack of training and
apply it to a road legal race bike spells disaster.

I think you pretty much had it right Bob.

"On Friday, RCMP investigators said Bourdon's inexperience on the sleek,
speedy machine - a

- may have played a role in the crash. "

Had it right? The GSXR-1000 is no squid machine. Bob was the proud
owner of one his damn self!
