Default Sidecars and snow

There's several inches of snow here (approx 100 meters elevation)
but down at the blueberry farm (near sea level) they have 3 inches
of slushy stuff like a giant slurpee covering the whole landscape.

None of my bikes is any good for riding today, and the VW trike has
such little weight on the front wheel it might not even steer, so I'm
thinking about the Ural with sidecar.

If it was made for year-round road conditions in Russia then it should
be ok for Canada, although the 100 kph top speed is a bit limiting.

However it's got two-wheel drive (Gear-Up and Patrol models) and
reverse. Besides Ural (or CJ, now that Dnepr has shut down) are there
other choices if I want these features?

ps. Tud's article (in rec.motorcycles.harley) "Short clip" has a link
to a video of him playing in the snow with his Gear-Up. It demonstrates
the convenience of reverse gear and the difference between single and
dual wheel drive. (Google Groups has it if the posting has expired.)

I really shouldn't watch stuff like this, because it awakens yearnings
for things I can't afford, and diminishes the enjoyment of bikes
I already have. Sigh.

Thanks for the help ... however it's 1200 miles and a lot of
international red tape between me and that rig.

However, I suppose it's closer than Irbit, Sverdlovskaya Oblast, Russia.

that one, then ride it home!

Thanks kindly, I am almost considering it. Sure would be an interesting
ride home this time of year. I'd have to bundle up well, probably in
my fireman's turnout suit and use secondary highways if it's too slow
for I5.

I should *never* have gone to this site and downloaded videos of
sidecars in action. View them at your own risk:

http://www.imz-ural.com/downloads/movies.htm

A brand new Patrol or Gear-Up would cost me close to $15k after taxes
and other charges. This is nuts. I can probably fit a small hack onto my
S40 for a lot less money. Will look into it.

Oops , I was thinking about the one in another more recent thread . Not the
first time I've been wrong , and quite likely not the last .
