Default v-65

When I hit 7000 rpms it completly quits running, when you let off the
throttle and let it get below 7 grand it's fine, runs like a new one (had 2
in 85) I'll try plugs and wires first, still has orignal, thanks guys

It still sounds like dirty carburetors to me. I recommend buying a
$3.00 can of the liquid Berryman B12 Choke and Carburetor cleaner and
pouring 4 or 5 ounces into a full tank of gas and riding to see if it
will clean out the tiny ports and passages in the idle circuits.

Bad REV limiter????

Based on the owner's description, it sure sounds electronic.

I had an '83 V65, and I seem to recall a ~10K redline. But,
I don't recall the presence of a rev limiter. You were free to
float your own valves, and blow your own engine, back then.

First Honda that had a rev limiter, SFAIK, was a 1984~1985 700cc
Nighthawk.

My friend let me ride his Nighthawk and told me about the rev limiter
and how it shut off two spark around 11K and how it sounded like the
valves were floating when that happened.

Damned if I didn't hit the rev limiter a few times during that short
ride on Nine Mile...

The 83 Magnas didn't have rev limiters but all the later ones did. The rev
limiter was built into one of the two spark boxes. They were interchangeable
but the one with the limiter was slightly bigger.

IIRC the 1100s had a 9500 redline and the 700/750 models had 10,000 but I could
be wrong. In any case, shutting off at 7k is not a rev limiter kicking in, it's
almost certainly carb related. Could be a ruptured diaphragm or plugged jets,
or both. Could even be tight valves but I doubt it.

Gone but not forgotten:
'83 750 Magna
'82 750 Magna
'85 1100 Magna
'85 1100 Sabre
'85 1100 Magna (another one)
Still here:
'85 500 Interceptor
'94 750 Magna

I've already run my 92 Nighthawk over the 8500 RPM redline. Ain't no
limiter on that bike.

Sticky sliders?
