Ok, well lets start with this in a separate thread, as the current one
was a memorial thread to a great bloke, when all's said and done:

Do we want the NW200, or do we want one of the others? Cookstown looks
as mental as a pissed, bare-arsed badger, but are there others we should
look at too? IIRC Grimly's the expert on this sort of thing, so lets
page him (but anyone else with knowledge is welcome to contribute):

Paging Mr Grimly! Mr Grimly to the gravel-rash coloured phone!

I'm thinking it should be a fly-drive for the road racing, and a
separate "tour of Ireland" by bike, later in the year ... the former
being a long weekend, the latter being a week or so. Opinions please,
one and all.

And for you lurkers, and I know there's lots of you, you'd be very
welcome too ... email me (watching the staggeringly obvious spam-trap),
and I'll add you to the list, if you're too shy to reply on-group. Same
goes for anyone I've argued with or insulted previously; so long as
you're not des or Robbo, you're very welcome, and I consider all
hatchets to be buried in advance, although be aware that I'll be booking
this within the next month or so, and needing money from folk in a
similar timescale, for hotels at least, and won't be extending a line of
credit, unless I know and like you, and you have a proper hard-luck
story prepared, in which case go on, try your luck with me

Also, if we have any NI locals wanting to make suggestions as to either
tracks to go to, places to stay, or both, *please* either post or email
me.

Also, also, if Champ wants to enter said race, I'm sure even more folk
would be happy to turn up and wave, although obviously he'll want to get
the TT out of the way first. After he & Kwakzilla have kicked McG into
the weeds and he's won his first Senior TT he may not want to associate
with the likes of us anyway - lord alone knows I bloody wouldn't

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Bear <bastardDOTbear@gmail.com>
saying something like:

>Do we want the NW200, or do we want one of the others? Cookstown looks

qho? I'm far from being expert on this, as all I do is watch from afar.
However, I'd like to draw attention to the schedule of Irish road racing
for this year as some sort of guide to next year's events...

http://www.realroadracing.com/calendar.php

http://www.realroadracing.com/circuits/index.php

http://www.motorcycling-ireland.com/...DATES_2008.htm

The Faugheen race is but ten miles down the road from me, for example,
and is fairly representative of the smaller type of event - turn up, pay
a few quid and sit on a bale with a can or two while loonies flash past.
The larger events are in a class of their own, of course.

All of the races south of the border just don't get any TV coverage,
which is a damned shame and can be laid squarely at the door of fucking
RTE - if it doesn't involve sweaty blokes running around a feild they're
not interested. The Faugheen race has been happening for years and I
only found out about it last year, believe it or not.

Hmmmmmm ... interesting ... I should imagine that would be a hoot.

But, for the moment, would you agree that the NW200 is the Way Forward?

As a first step, like. Some of us may never return to the mainland [1]

[1] I came this >< close to staying on in Eire about 23 years ago, while
on holiday

I would say so - may as well get the biggest (I think it is that) one in
to start with, then see if anyone's mad or daft enough to get hooked on
the smaller stuff.

That was precisely my theory, thanks

Ok folks, roll-up for the NW200 2009.

Your chance to be part of history.

And chemistry.

And probably geography too, knowing ukrm.

Dunno if this lot are still going, but I've hired from them before and they
were pretty good and very reasonably priced:
http://www.4ni.co.uk/75456x88x5_nort...urn-antrim.htm.
If they are still around, you could make it a fly-ride holiday - Lisburn's
not a million miles from the airport (though you'd probably need to get a
taxi).

If you are biking over there, make sure you take in the A2 coast road from
Larne round to Portstewart. You might also want to do a lap or two of the
Ulster GP circuit (about a ten minute ride from the bike hire place, all on
nice quiet public roads).

I'm interested in doing the NW200, but would much prefer it on a bike,
with a day or so before or after to explore. Wouldn't be able to make
two trips I don't think.

unmunged e-mail addy above valid.

Wot, even i'd be welcome??

Tho i'm not really into road racing, the tour of ireland thing later on is
very very very tempting, as i wanted to do that sometime anyway, and being
in the company of people who will remind me i am a twat every 5 seconds
sounds irresistable

Get a grip man, if someone calls you a twat either smack 'em in the mouth or
insult them back. Have a spine man.

No, I meant *you* email *me* from an unmunged account.

All I'm going to do thus far is book the accommodation, as people are
liable to make their own way there via a number of routes, and the
accommodation seems to be the trickiest factor.

Although I suspect that "dealing with UKRM-mongs" will rapidly overtake
it.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "platypus"

ROFL!!

Glad to see you back, John. Nothing more delicious on UKRM than your
sycophants gazing up at you, hands clasped together in adoration, whilst
you lower your eyes in faux modesty.

You fucking retard. Hasn't it occurred to you that the last thing I
want is to be 'part of your gang, your gang, your gang' ?

You cretin.
